Course objective:
To create a stimulating learning environment that enables students to learn conversational American Sign Language along with knowledge and appreciation of Deaf culture, by focusing on receptive and expressive skills. Course will incorporate and increase exposure to a variety of language samples through on-line resources as well as guest presenters. Students are encouraged to participate in local Deaf community events to broaden their social ASL skills!
You and/or your student(s) will need the following SUPPLIES:
1) Expressive face
2) Relaxed Body and hands
3) Mind ready to think visually
4) Notebook, pencil
5) Access to a computer with e-mail & internet capabilities
(Homework assignments are accessed on youtube @ EyeSignUSignASL)

Teacher profile/Shelly Hansen:
Nationally certified ASL<>English Interpreter since 1992. Hold three RID certifications: two general (CI/CT), one legal (SC:L). Freelance community Interpreter for medical, legal, business, employment, educational settings. Attended the University of Washington for two years, and graduated in 1989 with an AAS in Interpreting from Seattle Central Community College. Adjunct Instructor for CBC’s Early Childhood Education dept: ASL I, II and III.
